Let’s take a quick look at the specifications of the MacBook Neo. This machine is aimed at the entry-level market. It uses a 13-inch Liquid Retina display with a resolution of 2408 x 1506 and a brightness of 500 nits. It is equipped with an A18 Pro chip and 8GB of unified memory. It weighs about 1.23 kilograms and features a lightweight, quiet, and fanless design. In terms of storage space, MacBook Neo only has two SSD capacities, 256GB and 512GB, and there is no 1TB version.

Recently, YouTube channel DirectorFeng shared a video of successfully upgrading MacBook Neo to 1TB. The videos on this channel are all in the ASMR style, with almost no dialogue, and mainly focus on close-up shots of the disassembly and welding process.

The internal design of MacBook Neo this time is simpler than that of many MacBooks in the past. After removing the bottom cover, you can see the overall layout. Many parts, such as the battery, speakers and connection ports, are fixed with screws instead of glue, making maintenance easier:

However, this does not mean that SSD upgrade is easy. NAND flash memory chips are also welded to the motherboard, so tools are required to heat and remove them, then clean the solder joints, and then use professional tools such as hot air rework equipment and microscopes to re-solder larger-capacity chips to the motherboard:

Although it can be expanded to 1TB, we still don’t recommend it. This kind of modification not only requires high-end welding technology and professional equipment, but the warranty is basically gone after it is disassembled. Even if the computer is successfully booted in the end, it does not mean that long-term stability and data security are ok, and the risk is still very high.
