MacBook Neo Although the price is very cheap, the price is poor specifications. Among them, the 8GB unified memory is what everyone cares about the most. There is no upgrade option, so everyone will worry about whether it is enough for use. Many people use it nowLaptopWhen working, it is not just as simple as opening a browser and document software, but also using chat tools, more than a dozen tabs, music streaming, and even occasionally retouching pictures, cutting videos, or using the machine AI Function, 8GB can easily hit a bottleneck.
For this reason, a foreign YouTuber recently conducted a stress test and opened 60 Apps at the same time to see if the MacBook Neo could bear it. Unexpectedly, not only was there no problem, there was another model with better performance. Windows The laptop shut down directly when performing similar operations.

MacBook Neo only has 8GB of memory and can handle light multitasking! Foreign media actually measured that nearly 60 Apps can be opened at one time
Canadian hardware YouTube channel Hardware Canucks recently shared a review video of MacBook Neo, with a special emphasis on the review experience of Windows users.
In the first half of the video, the first impressions are shared. Basically, the appearance is very exquisite, you must choose 512GB + Touch ID, and the speaker sound quality is not very good:

Then we used their workflow to actually test this machine. Not surprisingly, even when performing light Photoshop operations, you can see a slight delay. It even takes about 1 minute to process a photo with Lightroom’s noise reduction, which means that the MacBook Neo is not suitable for heavy photo retouching. However, it is quite smooth when used to cut simple 4K videos. This also means that it is not that it cannot be used for digital creation at all, but that it can only handle relatively light work:

Then comes the key point: “60 App Stress Test”.
Hardware Canucks opened almost all the apps on the MacBook Neo, and the screen confirmed that there were a total of 60 apps. Although the thumbnails are still being updated, there is no obvious lag when moving the mouse, and there is no direct crash when switching to various programs:

What’s even more amazing is that when all 60 apps were still open (running in the background), they opened the video for a playback test, and the result was that they could still play and drag the timeline normally. Of course, when switching to other time points, you will need to wait for a little loading time, but the playback process is smooth. The only obvious drawback is that it consumes a lot of power. In this test, the battery quickly dropped from 22% to 17%:

One thing you need to know first is that this test is more like proving that macOS’s background scheduling, memory compression, and swap mechanisms are doing a good job, rather than saying that 8GB is enough for all users. Because opening many programs does not mean that every program is running at full speed. There is a big difference between the two.
Hardware Canucks also performed a similar operation on another Windows laptop (it seems to be Lenovo Legion), but it shut down directly when 18% of the battery was left. There was no way to complete the same 60 Apps running comparison:

The results of the Windows laptop, not surprisingly, caused a quarrel in the community. Beyond FPS criticized the comparison as being too biased. They believed that the video did not fully show what steps were performed on the Windows side. They also suspected that the machine might just go to sleep:
Hardware Canucks responded by mentioning that the machine did not sleep or standby, but had a black screen. In a follow-up message, it attached a Reddit discussion stating that Legion Slim 5 users had indeed reported similar problems. In other words, this test is more like a single machine delivering the package, not all Windows laptops:

Excluding Windows laptops, although this test of MacBook Neo does not mean that 8GB of memory is enough, Apple has indeed adjusted it to be better than expected. It can basically meet the needs of light multi-tasking, and it may be easier to use than some Windows laptops of the same price.
