compared to Windows 10,Windows 11 The UI design is indeed much better, including rounded windows, a new start menu, a redesigned taskbar, etc. However, after using it for a while, you will find that there are actually many parts of the system that are old versions, such as the console, execution window, login editor, device administrator, etc. The interfaces of these tools look almost exactly the same as those of previous generations of Windows, and they do not even support dark mode. The overall style is very inconsistent. The good news is,MicrosoftRecently, it was officially confirmed that these old interfaces will be significantly renovated to make the visual experience of Windows 11 more consistent.

Microsoft confirms that it will significantly revamp the old interface of Windows 11, and old features such as the console will still be retained

According to foreign media Windows Latest According to reports, Marcus Ash, director of Microsoft’s Windows design department, revealed that the team is currently creating new tools and technologies to modernize the old dialog boxes, pop-up windows, and system interfaces in the Windows 11 system, and redesign them from the bottom up to migrate these components to the relatively new WinUI 3 framework.

WinUI 3 is the interface development framework currently promoted by Microsoft. For example, the “Settings” App of Windows 11 is made using this technology, and it looks more modern and smooth. Old tools such as the console and execution window still use the technical framework of a long time ago, so there is no way to switch with the system’s dark mode, and there are no new design languages such as rounded-corner windows.

This also means that more Windows 11 tools will also support dark mode, such as login editors. However, Marcus Ash also admitted that there is currently no specific update time. Due to the architecture of the Windows system, not all components share the same theme system, so full coverage of dark mode cannot be achieved by changing settings.

As for third-party applications, Microsoft also stated that it will not force developers to support dark mode, because doing so may cause problems with the interface of some apps.

Windows Latest added that Microsoft is not just talking this time. In the recent Windows preview version, a modern “execution” window built using WinUI 3 has appeared, supporting dark mode, and more new features will be added in the future, including smarter search:

What’s special is that Microsoft’s approach is to “build modern alternatives while retaining old tools.” This means that the original “execution” of the old version will also be retained and dark mode will be added:

I’m not sure why Microsoft designed it this way. It may be because it is afraid that users will not be able to switch to the new version instantly. Over time, it is speculated that the old version should be slowly retired.

Microsoft also plans to introduce movable and resizable taskbars, which will take precedence over others:

In addition to UI optimization, on March 20, Microsoft also confirmed that Windows 11 will launch a major update and shared a long list of improvements. The final result remains to be verified over time, but foreign media Windows Latest learned from internal sources that Microsoft is indeed serious about improving Windows 11 this time.
