However, not everyone will be able to obtain this badge right away. Facebook sets a few basic thresholds. It is worth noting that Facebook also emphasizes that verification does not equal endorsement. Obtaining a badge does not mean that the platform guarantees your credibility, nor does it obtain additional privileges. All verified users are still required to abide by the same community standards and business policies, and violations will still be punished. While Meta’s policies are often controversial, this free authentication measure does move in the direction of greater security. As AI-generated personal data becomes more and more realistic and difficult to identify, a badge that clearly says “I am a real person” is both practical and necessary for the average user.
