Just after major AI companies began to seize the world’s memory production capacity, almost all kinds of technology products were severely impacted in terms of price and supply. According to the new Xbox CEO, the next-generation Xbox console “Project Helix” currently under development is no exception.

“Project Helix” is the successor to the current generation console Xbox Series X|S. Microsoft emphasizes that this new machine powered by AMD chips will “redefine” the home console because in addition to Xbox-specific software, this console can also run PC games. What is exciting is that the development kit of this console is currently expected to be handed over to developers in 2027, quietly kicking off the arrival of the next generation.

But for consumers, the price of technology products has been extremely volatile during this period. In particular, the booming development of major AI companies has led to shortages of memory and other chip materials, and this has quickly been reflected in the market. In addition to the rising prices of PC components such as memory, even Microsoft and Sony have successively raised the prices of their current-generation consoles. As for “Project Helix”, it seems that they have to face such an environment.

In an interview with the “Game File” website, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma confirmed that the trend of memory costs will be closely related to the price and supply of “Project Helix”, but she also hopes that players will not be too pessimistic, emphasizing that Xbox’s current priority is to create an excellent console that can run PC games smoothly, and price and supply are not yet their main considerations, because the global technology situation is still in a state of rapid change.

“These factors are like an equation with each other. Memory cost affects price, and it also affects supply. When we think about how to become a platform for global players, these factors will be taken into consideration. Therefore, we cannot announce the exact launch timetable yet. The world is changing so fast. However, the most important thing for us right now is to focus on the things we can control at this stage and focus on building a console that can play all kinds of great games, and that includes your PC games,” she said.

Although “Game File” speculates that this new Xbox machine may be launched as soon as next year, Sharma and Xbox officials do not seem ready to share information about the launch process. Instead, they reiterated that the development kit will be provided to game developers next year, and hinted that they are very excited about the initial feedback they have received so far. But for now, it seems that players can only hope that the memory market will be relieved when “Project Helix” is launched.
