Foreign media 9to5Mac discovered that in the new version of the “Photo app / Photo app” in iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia, the new system will actively analyze whether the stored photo and video data are damaged or incorrect, and will place image files that may not be directly saved in the database in the new “Recovered” folder.
This folder operates somewhat similarly to the “Recently Deleted” folder/album – except that clicking in will require a biometric unlock to view. There are also “Restore to library” and “Permanently Delete” options.

Regarding the reasons for the errors, foreign media have also obtained relevant information from the authorities.
The image files that will be included in “Recovery” first may be damaged during the process of being captured by the device and being saved to the gallery, as well as in the database itself – a while ago, deleted photos suddenly reappeared in iOS 17.5.1. It seems to be a similar problem? In addition, it may also be caused by a third-party application that cannot correctly import photos into the gallery due to permissions and other issues.

The new generation of iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia systems will be classified into the Recovered album folder, allowing you to decide whether to delete it or try to see if the image is still available depending on the situation.
