Finally! iPhone can now change default notification ringtones
Although seeing the title, many users of other mobile systems should have let out a chuckle – and maybe made a joke about “reinvention”?
But regardless of the fact that the original app has already provided different notification ringtone settings, in fact, as long as developers want to, they can basically customize it or even allow users to choose ringtones (such as LINE, Facebook Messenger, etc.). So it seems that it cannot be said that Apple has really completely blocked the flexibility of notification ringtone settings in iOS / iPadOS.

After all, in this public beta version of iOS 17.2 Beta 4, Apple seems to have simply let everyone customize such settings.
Although there may be variables whether it will continue to be retained in the official version, in the latest iOS 17.2 beta version (the public beta version is also available!), Apple has added new options for sound and tactile feedback in settings that allow users who want to change the ringtone back to the classic “tritone” or a more obvious/low-key notification sound. Basically, after updating this version of the system, you can achieve this setting freedom.
This setting can be set in “Sound and Tactile Feedback > Default Alerts” – you can tell from the name even before it is translated into Chinese that this is really a test version function (is it weird to be listed at the bottom?).
Basically, the system does not limit you to the original ringtones. Therefore, in addition to the default ringtone, you can also choose other ringtones that you have obtained as the default notification ringtone for all non-customized ringtone apps.
To put it simply, if you are still accustomed to the notification sound that has been with us for many years, through this beta test system, you can already change back to your original custom notification ringtone.
Basically, since this option has been made, I personally can’t see anything that needs to be withdrawn in the official version (but this possibility cannot be ruled out). Therefore, if you are a friend who wants to wait until at least the official version is released before updating, you may also want to wait for the official version of Apple’s iOS 17.2; if you are already troubled by the inconspicuous notification ringtone, I believe upgrading is not a big problem – since you have already moved from the developer version to the public beta version, it is actually an option to upgrade first if you feel the need – but as the old saying goes, remember to back up the data you need to back up before proceeding!
