There are currently many rumors that the iPhone 15 Pro will use the A17 chip, and many people are also concerned about the specifications of the A17 chip. Even if the strength of the iPhone is not the specifications, but the experience brought by various software and hardware integration services, the specifications are still a bit of a concern. Recently, the whistleblower Unknown21 posted his opinion on X. His post mentioned the specifications of the A17 chip. According to him, the A17 chip supplied to the iPhone 15 Pro series may have 6 GPU cores. Just one more than the A16. This may mean that the A17 will have better gaming performance. Although there is only one core difference, the performance is not much different, but at least it is a known difference from the information currently available.

According to the familiar progress in the past, Apple is scheduled to launch a new iPhone at the upcoming autumn conference, and also introduce new chips and performance growth. By then, the new iPhone, or iPhone 15 and its family, will receive the most attention. All details, even the various chips buried deep inside the phone, are believed to be of concern to players.
Rumor has it that the A17 chip on the iPhone 15 Pro will only have more GPU cores than the old model
Judging from the observed performance growth of A-series chips in recent years, Apple no longer allows new generation chips to have too advanced performance. The so-called performance growth or energy efficiency ratio basically has no obvious effect on actual control and stability. However, users always buy new phones rather than old ones. Even if the overall specifications are not very different from the previous generation, some upgrade effects must be provided to let users and players know that the new mobile phones are still worthy of snapping up.

The A17 bionic chip is currently manufactured by TSMC using the N3B process node. Therefore, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which are scheduled to use the A17 chip, will be the only mobile phones using 3nm process chips this year. On the contrary, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus still use the current flagship chip A16. But this does not mean that A16 is not good enough. The iPhone 14 Pro currently on sale also uses A16 chips. It’s just that Apple obviously pays more attention to the specifications of the iPhone Pro series, which must be significantly better than the iPhone.

As for memory, the iPhone 15 Pro is believed to have 8GB of memory. Although current Android phones have had 8GB models a few years ago, Apple’s current models only have 6GB of memory at most. Thanks to the extremely powerful memory management mechanism of iOS, even with only 6GB of memory, the system performance is still amazing. If the iPhone 15 Pro were to increase the memory to 8GB, I believe it would be able to achieve quite good performance for some large programs, especially mobile games.

However, the whistleblower believes that even if the A17 Bionic chip adds GPU cores, it will not increase the system memory accordingly. Keeping 6GB of RAM is Apple’s setting. Apple, which has recently been squeezing toothpaste in terms of chip specifications and mobile phone specifications, is not a company that likes to follow other people’s routines. The simpler the specifications, the more in line with Apple’s interests. As for the so-called 2 GB difference, I believe that the high-quality performance of iOS can bridge this gap.
Since it adopts a new process, the A17 can naturally pack more transistors with a better process and control the chip volume and energy consumption ratio. At present, the A17 may have 18 billion to 20 billion transistors. Whether such specifications will be available when it is announced will have to wait until the launch day to verify.
