Have you ever had this experience when uploading photos or videos in a LINE chat room? The file clearly shows “Transmitting” and you hesitate to switch to another app while waiting. Then when you come back in the blink of an eye, you find that the pictures have not been uploaded at all? Now you can say goodbye to such worries! LINE has launched a new “real-time dynamic” function, which allows users using iPhone, Apple Watch and iPad to instantly monitor the progress of file uploads directly on the lock screen or dynamic island. Finally, they no longer need to wait in the chat room to watch the progress bar run out! This update is not only for convenience, but also to allow users to freely switch between working, watching dramas, and surfing the Internet without being stuck in the chat interface. Want to know how to enable this function? Which models and versions are applicable? This article is compiled for you in one go!

LINE new features are online! iPhone users finally no longer have to stare at chat rooms waiting for uploads

In today’s communication era, LINE has almost become a must-have app on Taiwanese people’s mobile phones. Whether it is a gathering of friends, a family group, or a company meeting notification, almost all of it is done through LINE. And with such high frequency of use, sending pictures and videos is even more commonplace. However, many people have actually encountered this problem. When uploading photos, it clearly shows “Transmitting”, but as soon as they leave the chat room screen, they worry about whether the upload will fail and whether they should wait a little longer before switching out, resulting in wasted time waiting for the progress. Now, LINE supports the “real-time dynamic” function of iOS, which is precisely to solve this problem.

What is “real-time news”? To put it simply, it allows you to track the upload progress of pictures or videos even after you leave the LINE App. In other words, users no longer need to wait in the chat room for uploading, and there is no need to switch back and forth to confirm whether it has been uploaded. Just like watching YouTube’s mini player, with dynamic island and lock screen, these real-time information will remind you intimately in the corner of the screen: Where has it been uploaded? How many seconds are left? Is the transmission finished? This way you can do other things without worry, such as checking Reels on IG, checking recipes, swiping PTT, or even playing games!

How to enable and use this feature? In fact, this function does not need to be turned on. As long as you are using the LINE and iOS systems that match the version and model, and send pictures or videos to the chat room normally, the system will automatically trigger real-time dynamic notifications. When transmitting, as long as you switch to other screens or enter the locked screen, you will see a progress display similar to a countdown bar. No additional settings are required and it will not interfere with other operations.

What are the supported devices and conditions?

To use the thoughtful feature of “Live Updates”, you need to meet the following conditions:

  • LINE App version must be v15.5.1 (inclusive) or above
  • The iPhone system needs to be iOS 16.2 (inclusive) or above
  • iPad needs to be iPadOS 17.0 (inclusive) or above
  • When using Apple Watch with an iPhone, it must be watchOS 11.0 and the iPhone must be iOS 18.0 (inclusive) or above.

If you usually update LINE and iOS systems in real time, you should already be eligible. As long as you have a model that supports “Dynamic Island” such as iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro, you can also enjoy the super convenient visual experience of displaying the progress bar directly on the dynamic island.

How useful is this feature? To give a few practical examples:

  • When transferring large files in the office: There is no need to open LINE and wait for it to finish while watching the screen. You can switch to writing a letter or replying to a report, and the lock screen will continuously update the progress.
  • When sending photos to relatives and friends: You have taken dozens of travel photos and want to send a bunch of them to your family at once? During the transmission, you can swipe to IG, follow TV shows, and check the weather without fear of missing the transmission.
  • It is more convenient for multi-tasking: switch from LINE to Safari to check information, open a memo to record things, and then look back at LINE. You only need to look at the dynamic island or lock screen to know the upload status.

Conclusion

If you are an iPhone user and often use LINE to transfer pictures and videos, this function is really useful. Although it is only a “small upgrade”, it has significantly optimized the user experience. It not only saves time, but also reduces the trouble of retransmitting after transmission failure, allowing multi-tasking users to use their mobile phones more efficiently. This also makes people look forward to whether LINE will implement similar real-time dynamic functions on the Android version in the future. After all, everyone wants convenience, and cross-platform consistency is also the direction of progress that users are looking forward to.
