Everyone should be familiar with the adjective “flexible”. But seriously speaking, it seems wrong to say that the native multitasking functions of the Android system are inflexible – many customized functions can even be directly windowed.
But now it seems that in the split-screen mode of split screen, Google should hope to provide higher “flexibility” performance in terms of the number of apps opened at one time.

When foreign media Android Authority dug into the details of the Android 16 DP2 test version, it was discovered that the multitasking function in the split screen can now enable a new interface that is more flexible and has higher multitasking potential. In addition to the original dual-application left and right division, a new App will be added.
It is expected that it will be possible to open up to 3 applications at a time in a split-screen multitasking interface like OnePlus’ Open Canvas or the split-window interface of systems such as the OPPO Find N3 folding phone.
Although this feature is not yet available, foreign media Android Authority has triggered this new interface on a Pixel device (probably a Pixel Tablet) – when he drags the third app from the shortcut bar at the bottom and floats it to the multitasking interface that has activated split windows, a pink split window display effect with rounded corners will now be displayed.
Foreign media believe that this experience means that the Android system may be testing and preparing a new 3-window split function. The screen-to-body ratio of the additional third app will be reduced to perhaps only about 10%.
However, rather than compressing the proportion of the App, this interface will allow you to see part of the App screen, and when needed, use a horizontal movement to more fully display the shielding effect of the vertical App screen. And since the overall interface really pays homage to other third-party Android brands, I am also curious whether Google will also provide a split-window multitasking method for vertically arranging apps to be displayed outside the screen.

That is to say, foreign media currently believe that this feature should mainly prepare for the interface evolution of Android tablets. But after all, Google is also developing a series of foldable phones. So I always feel that if the screen is unfolded, the screen will be very close to that of a small tablet.
