The Android public Wi-Fi network login experience has quietly prepared super considerate simplified process changes.

Although for Taiwan, where all-you-can-eat mobile data is quite common, the chance of really needing to use public Wi-Fi in life is not high – maybe because you want to save a lot of power, or in an environment where the mobile network signal is relatively poor and there are too many users in traffic jams, you would want to turn on Wi-Fi and try to connect to a public Wi-Fi hotspot?

In addition, when traveling or staying in a hotel, you may also prefer to connect to public Wi-Fi which “should” be relatively stable and fast – when you go abroad to the airport or want to save data during the trip, you should also look for public Wi-Fi to use. However, for Google, which continues to enhance the Android user experience, it is now discovered by foreign media that it is likely to prepare to further enhance the experience of connecting to public Wi-Fi.

By digging into the latest Android system, foreign media found clues that Google Chrome Custom Tabs may be used to simplify the public Wi-Fi network login experience.

In short, in the future, when an Android device turns on Wi-Fi and connects to a public network, the pop-up web interface commonly seen will also support the personal information content access support of Chrome’s special Custom Tabs experience. Information including: browsing stage, stored password, payment method and address will be integrated into the interface required for the online login page, providing users with higher efficiency when repeatedly filling in information quickly.

According to findings from Android Authority. In Captive Portals for public Wi-Fi network connection experience, clues that Android will support Chrome Custom Tabs have been found in captive_portal_cct and androidx.browser library.

This means that Google is likely to give Android’s public Wi-Fi login experience a chance to switch from the Android System WebView app, which basically requires starting from scratch every time, to Chrome Custom Tabs that can support more automatic filling of personal information.

Unfortunately, it is reported that this feature has not yet been activated through Flag and other methods, so such support cannot be directly enabled.

Not surprisingly, “more convenient” functions will also bring about “more dangerous” security concerns.

Although specifically, after filling in personal information, it is obvious that the user still needs to click to confirm before the data will be sent. But if the Android system is really changed to Chrome Custom Tabs by default in the future, you may have to pay more attention when you want to connect to public Wi-Fi in the future, and don’t press login too quickly without realizing that the source you are connecting to may be a fake or unsafe public network.

Or, in the future, Google will let users choose whether to support auto-fill related options, which should allow everyone to choose whether to enable it according to their needs.
