LINE is a communication software that most people use every day. However, if the iPhone is too old in the near future, it will no longer be able to use it? LINE officials recently officially confirmed that starting from November 5, 2024, if LINE on your smartphone has not been upgraded to version 12.18.0 or newer, you will no longer be able to use this application.

Can I use LINE? Old iPhone users, please note that LINE will cease support starting from November 5th.

Recently, LINE officially announced the latest information. The LINE system will start on November 5, 2024. All users who have not upgraded to version 12.18.0 or above will officially say goodbye to LINE and will no longer be able to use it! This is not as simple as “not supported” or “unable to update”, but it can’t even log in! Don’t want to be unable to contact your friends suddenly? Check the LINE version on your phone now!

Simply put, if you want to continue to use LINE services after November 5, you must update the LINE App to version 12.18.0 (inclusive) or above. Moreover, iPhone users must use iOS 14.0 or above, and Android users must update the system version to 7.0.0 or above. If you are using iOS version below 13.7.0 or Android version below 6.0.1, LINE App will not be updated to version 12.18.0 or above, and you will no longer be able to use LINE App services!

How to confirm your LINE App version?

So, how to confirm which version of your LINE App is currently? Two simple query methods are shared below. You can confirm according to your preferred method. First of all, the first method is to open the LINE App, click “Settings (gear button)” on the homepage to enter the settings page, and then click “About LINE” to see the version you are currently using.
Another method, which I personally think is simpler, is to open the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android), try to update to the latest version that can be updated, and then confirm the current version of the LINE App.

If you are using an iPhone, which iPhones will not support the LINE App on 11/5?

The affected iPhone users this time are mainly friends who use iPhone 6 and older models. Since LINE 12.18.0 version can only be installed on iOS 14 or higher systems, older models that cannot be upgraded will face a “one size fits all” dilemma. Unsupported iPhone models include:

  • iPhone 6
  • iPhone 6 Plus
  • iPhone 5s
  • iPhone 5c
  • iPhone 5
  • and earlier models

If you use the above-mentioned iPhone, which iPhone can you recommend to exchange for?

Since November 5th is coming soon, if you are an iPhone user, it is recommended to find an iPhone for temporary use, or simply exchange it for a newer iPhone or find a reputable second-hand store. Here we roughly divide it into two situations to provide you with a clearer direction for changing your iPhone.

If my budget allows, I want to switch to an iPhone and use it for several years.

If you are a user who is still using iPhone 6 and has used this phone for up to 10 years, it is actually cost-effective to directly switch to a new and latest iPhone and use it for 3 to 5 years. Then considering the iOS system and App updates, as well as the performance, photography, battery life, connection ports, functions, etc. of the phone itself, the first choice is:

  • iPhone 16 Plus
  • iPhone 16

Except for the fact that the Chinese version of Apple Intelligence is not yet available, this year’s iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are equipped with A18 chips, equipped with 8GB RAM, and have a variety of storage capacity options. Even though the screen refresh rate is still 60Hz, with convenient camera control buttons, it will still be a quite comprehensive upgrade for users of old iPhones.

The budget is limited and I want to find a second-hand iPhone to use for 1 to 2 years while waiting for the new iPhone later.

If you don’t want to buy this year’s iPhone 16 series yet, want to wait for the iPhone SE 4 that is rumored early next year, or have a limited budget and don’t want to spend too much money, there are still many good options for second-hand iPhones. In addition to the fact that it is not recommended to buy the current iPhone SE, which will be remodeled, it is basically not recommended to buy a model that is too old, lest a year after the replacement, the application will no longer be supported due to system updates, and you will have to spend money to replace it again.

As for the recommended second-hand iPhone model, it depends on your personal budget. If you purely want to use LINE, watch videos, social media, and occasionally take photos to record your life, otherwise it is better to choose the iPhone 14 or later models for second-hand phones, but you do not necessarily have to pursue the Pro version!
