Google Maps’ latest AR feature lets you travel back in time like Assassin’s Creed – and it turns out it was actually developed in partnership with Ubisoft!
When the real scenes in the game are very realistic, some people will joke that it is like playing a sightseeing simulator (praise intended), giving people the feeling of visiting the site in person.
Interestingly, the Google Maps augmented reality AR team actually thought of elevating the AR street view experience to a whole new level through technical cooperation.

Just like the demonstration above, this latest AR real-life experience of Google Maps will superimpose 3D buildings through the lens, allowing you to experience the exploration experience of traveling through time and space on the spot.
The team took Paris, a popular international attraction currently under development, as an example. It shows the surrounding scenery of the Eiffel Tower covered with historical buildings through Google Maps AR – there are even moving ships! It really gives people the feeling of “traveling” to the past instantly at the scene.

It has to be said that even Ubisoft has been somewhat controversial recently due to new works. But matching this kind of scenery really gives people the illusion of entering the game “Assassin’s Creed” and traveling through the scenes in their memories.
Then I didn’t expect that at the end of the official announcement post, it was actually announced that this was a project promoted by the cooperation between Google Arts & Culture and Ubisoft (surprise!) – I originally thought it was just to ride on the popularity of the Olympics (shown as: Confession).
I didn’t know that in the official AR presentation of the past scene in front of Notre Dame, you can also see several trucks carrying straw on the road. Is this also an Easter egg hidden in the game by Ubisoft – Eh! Is it possible that you can dig it in the haystack? ancestor assassin?

From this interface of the AR Street View experience provided by the Google Arts & Culture team, I think it may also have quietly revealed Google’s preparations for the XR mixed reality product that it will launch with Samsung.

Especially from the interface point of view, not only does it have dazzling scene switching effects, but it is also equipped with a floating explanation window that is somewhat similar to the one seen in visionOS used in Vision Pro.

Interestingly, because of this cross-border cooperation with the gaming industry, foreign media once again mentioned the Google Stadia cloud gaming service, which had previously failed with Google Virtual Reality. It’s really a variety of real-life experiences that make people feel like Ubisoft was invited to demonstrate this time. Are there really any hints about XR games in them?
I don’t know if you think I’m thinking too much (after all, Stadia really hurts Google), or do you all smell the same thing?
