It was previously reported that the App Store would not allow Windows PC emulators to be put on the shelves. Unexpectedly, a well-known UTM passed the review a few days ago.Suddenly appeared in the App Store, means that Apple has given the green light, which also means that iPhone and iPad users can now install the Windows operating system through this “UTM SE” emulator, and then run PC applications and games.
Let me teach you how to install it. The steps are very simple.

“UTM SE” free PC simulator teaches you how to use the free Windows operating system on iPhone/iPad
Before installing, I would like to remind you that it is an emulator after all, and it has certain performance requirements. The M series iPad will be easier to install and use, while the iPhone chip will be a little more difficult. Here I will demonstrate how to install the Windows XP operating system on the iPhone.
Windows 11 and Windows 10 require higher RAM memory (at least 8GB), which most iPhones cannot meet, so it is recommended to install it on the M series iPad. It is safer to choose Windows XP or Windows 7 for iPhone.
In addition to Windows, it also supports other operating systems, including Debian, Fedora, Linux, Ubuntu, Mac, etc. Those who are interested can play it by themselves.
After opening UTM SE, you will see several options. For Windows XP, Windows 7 and other systems, UTM officially has pre-built machines, so you don’t need to build them yourself. Click “Download pre-built machines from UTM database” below.

Then the UTM official website will open and find the operating system you want to install:

I tested Windows XP, click Download below to download the machine. Each operating system will also tell you the system requirements. Windows XP only requires 512MB of memory and 20GB of space to run, and the hardware requirements are not high. There will also be an installation tutorial below. You should know how to install it after taking a look at it:

The downloaded file is a ZIP compressed file, remember to decompress it first.
Then open the UTM SE App again, click Open below, and select the file you just decompressed:

The Windows XP virtual machine has been created. Next, you need to install the operating system. You need to prepare the ISO file yourself. However, Windows XP is no longer provided by Microsoft, so you have to download it from a third-party website. UTM official said that this virtual machine runs very well with the en_windows_xp_professional_sp3_Nov_2013 version, while foreign INTERNET Archive There is an ISO file of this version. Those in need can download it here:

After setting up, you can execute the virtual machine, and then the installation process will begin:

During the installation process, there will be situations that require operations. Please note that touch is not supported here. You must use the virtual keyboard. Click the keyboard icon on the upper right:

Return means Enter. If you want to select other options, you can use the top row of arrow keys:

If you use the same ISO file as me and don’t know what option to choose, just use the default one:

The iPhone installation will take a long time. You have to be patient. It may take up to an hour. Moreover, during the installation process, the iPhone screen will automatically dim and must remain on before the installation can continue. It doesn’t matter if it dims accidentally or the app jumps out. The installation will continue without interruption or stop when you reopen it (of course, the interval cannot be too long):

After everything is finished, the operating system will be installed. However, it seems that there are some problems with the network card bridging. The Windows XP I installed cannot access the Internet:

The operating system also does not support touch and requires a mouse to operate. You can move the mouse by sliding the screen.
As for the speed, don’t expect too much. Even if the iPhone is running a Windows XP virtual machine, I find it a bit difficult. Just opening settings and IE has to wait for several seconds. The M series iPad should be much better.
