The Browser Company wants to revolutionize the way humans use the Internet through the Arc browser. The official name of this new feature is “Call Arc” – it’s really a very simple and violent name XD.
The official also produced a video for it that pays homage to the iPhone’s 2007 “Hello” advertising video. In the video, we constantly see people picking up mobile phones and calling to ask various questions on the other end of the receiver.
In fact, this is Arc Search’s latest “Call Arc” experience. Basically, when the app is in use, the app will actively detect your behavior of bringing your ear close to the earpiece to trigger the voice search experience – after the call is triggered, the interface below will be displayed.
I briefly tried this interesting experience. Basically, Arc Search will suddenly remind you with a screen similar to a dynamic island when you receive an incoming call when you have recently used it. Now you can perform a quick AI voice search by simply picking up the phone and placing your ear close to the receiver.
This interface is really like using an Internet phone call. As long as you get close to the receiver, you will hear the voice assistant’s voice ready to receive instructions; the screen will also turn black – just like making a phone call.
That is to say, this experience actually seems to be relatively similar to the concept of calling an assistant on the phone, because after you ask a question, Call Arc’s AI voice assistant will use music similar to that of a call on hold to pass the waiting time for searching and sorting – it is really like asking an assistant (laughs).
In addition to transcribing the text of your query and AI reply directly on the screen, this voice search interface can also view more information through the Read More button in the lower right corner. As for the hang up and loudspeaker buttons, I believe anyone who has used a mobile phone to talk should know what they can do, right?

It should be noted that the initial situation with the previous summary gesture seems to be quite similar. It is this “Call Arc” that should only support English in the early stage of the experience – although when I asked it in English whether it could speak Chinese, it said yes, but later it still ignored me when I asked in Chinese.
In the settings, there is only a “Raise to Call Arc” switch, but no advanced settings for voice dialogue, so we probably have to wait and see if The Browser Company will add more settings or support taking into account the experience of Chinese users.
Finally, I am also quite curious. Since amplification is provided for calls, why can’t the voice interface of “Call Arc” be activated by buttons or other methods. We can only speculate at the moment, maybe the main purpose of this feature is to allow you to conduct voice searches more intuitively and quickly without disturbing other people, so it is not preset to allow you to conduct amplified AI conversation searches at any time (possibly).
I just tested whether the voice conversation function of the ChatGPT app can support proximity sensing to instantly switch to the handset mode, but unfortunately it does not – it seems that OpenAI is still a little less considerate in the human-machine experience (laughs).
