After downloading the “Central Meteorological Administration E” APP, it is recommended to enable the positioning function when opening it so that you can receive more accurate earthquake notifications in the future. There are three major functions on the main screen of the “Central Meteorological Administration E” APP, which are “real-time strong earthquake warning”, “earthquake report inquiry” and “latest tsunami information”.
When a large-scale and significant felt earthquake occurs in Taiwan, the Central Meteorological Administration collects, integrates, and confirms all real-time seismic station data and releases a significant felt earthquake report to the outside world. People who have installed this APP will receive audio and video notifications about 10 minutes after the earthquake occurs, showing the time of the earthquake, the epicenter location (latitude and longitude), the scale and depth of the earthquake, and the observed seismic intensity in various places in clear and obvious graphics. Users can check the significant felt earthquake reports within 7 days in the “Significant Felt Earthquake Report” function list.
In addition, “Latest Tsunami Information” can query the latest 5 tsunami information around the Pacific Rim. When the Central Meteorological Administration APP receives the pushed tsunami information, it will display the earthquake information, estimated tsunami wave arrival times and estimated wave heights in Taiwan’s tsunami warning zones in clear and obvious graphics and text.
The main benefit of real-time strong earthquake warnings is to provide recipients with emergency preparedness for earthquakes. It is not a comprehensive warning. Therefore, warnings are only sent to people in areas where the predicted earthquake intensity reaches a threshold. The threshold can be set by the user in the APP. On the settings page, you can not only confirm the location of mobile phones with strong push notifications, but also select the notification threshold of earthquake intensity. If you want to report a stronger earthquake, you can set “Intensity ≥ 3”. If you don’t want to miss any large earthquake reminder, you can set “Intensity ≥ 0”. However, be aware that if you set “Intensity ≥”, you will receive more frequent notification messages.

When a medium-to-large earthquake occurs on the island or near the coast of Taiwan, the Central Meteorological Administration uses the first few seconds of data from a small number of seismic stations near the epicenter to quickly calculate and report to the outside world. For areas 10 kilometers away from the epicenter, about a few seconds to 10 seconds before the arrival of the S-wave that may cause disasters, an early warning is provided. The alert content includes the epicenter and the estimated earthquake intensity in various places, mainly including the estimated earthquake intensity and earthquake location at the user’s location, allowing users to respond immediately to emergencies.
“Earthquake Report Query” allows you to query and browse earthquake reports by yourself. You can click on “Epicenter Location” and enlarge the map to find the earthquake intensity in various places.
