In order to comply with the US ban and allow the flagship gaming graphics card RTX 4090 to continue to be sold in China, NVIDIA launched the Chinese special version of the RTX 4090D at the end of last year. Compared with the standard version, the specifications not only have less CUDA, but also do not support overclocking. The power consumption is limited to 425W. Actual tests have shown that the performance is not as good as the RTX 4090. More importantly, the price remains unchanged, which also makes many players less interested in the RTX 4090D.
I don’t know if it’s because of the poor sales. Recently, Hong Kong media tested the ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090D launched by ASUS. The power consumption of this card is not locked. Not only can it reach up to 600W, but the running score after overclocking also surpassed the RTX 4090.

RTX 4090D is a Chinese special version, launched to comply with the US ban. In terms of specifications, the number of CUDA cores is 14,592, which is about 11% less than the 16,384 of the RTX 4090. The number of Tensor cores has also dropped to 456, and the RT cores have remained at 128. However, the base clock has been increased from the original 2230MHz to 2280MHz, but the highest overclocking clock is still 2520MHz. The VRAM display memory is 24GB GDDR6X, the memory bandwidth is 384 bits, and the power consumption is limited to 425W.

A few days ago, Hong Kong media HKEPC shared the actual test report of ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090D. The first part was normal, but in the second half of the overclocking test, they mentioned that this picture lifted the restriction of overclocking, and TGP power consumption could be liberated to a maximum of 600W, which means an increase of 41%.
They can easily adjust the GPU clock, display memory clock, GPU power consumption, GPU voltage and fan speed through the ASUS GPU Tweak III software:

They increased the GPU clock to 200MHz, liberating TGP power consumption to 141%, GPU voltage to +100%, and achieved a 3DMark Speed Way score of 10217 points. The GPU-Z software recorded a maximum GPU overclocking clock of 3045MHz:

However, it should be noted that this is only a higher running score than the RTX 4090. VideoCardz mentioned that in actual game testing, there will not be such a high performance improvement, and the difference between the two models is very small. But I think no one would play games after overclocking like this.
NVIDIA’s specification for this one is that the power consumption must be 425W, but ASUS’s one has no limit, and I’m not sure if it will be locked after being reported by major media.
