In terms of controllability, there has also been a major improvement. Sora 2 can follow complex instructions across shots and accurately remember and maintain the state of the world. Whether it’s realistic, cinematic, or even animated style, it performs exceptionally well.
To demonstrate Sora 2’s ability to generate sound effects, OpenAI also shared this video, and it actually looks pretty impressive. You can also notice that Sam Altman in the video is AI-generated, which is Sora 2’s greatest strength:
Sora 2 can now inject real-world elements—for example, by observing a video, it can place them into any Sora-generated scene and precisely restore their appearance and sound. This works for people, animals, objects, and more.

It’s a bit of a shame that Sora 2 currently uses an invitation system, meaning it hasn’t been fully opened up, and only some early users have received invitations.
In the coming days and weeks, OpenAI will prioritize advanced users of Sora 2 and ChatGPT Pro subscribers, followed by ChatGPT Plus and Team users, so most people may need to wait a bit longer before they can experience it.
ChatGPT Pro will be able to use the high-quality experimental Sora 2 Pro model, initially available only on the sora.com platform (and will also be integrated into the App in the future).
After Sora 2 is released, Sora 1 Turbo will remain usable, and all previously created content will be saved in the sora.com database.

This newly launched Sora by OpenAI is not just a video generation app, but more like a video-sharing social app, somewhat similar to TikTok, except that the short videos here are all AI-generated.
OpenAI says that in this app, users can create content, remix what others have generated, discover new videos in a customizable Sora recommendation feed, and use the cameo feature to put yourself or your friends into scenes. In other words, even if your friends aren’t around, you can use Sora 2 to generate a video of you performing together with your friends.
Of course, you have full control over this cameo feature. You can decide who can use it, or even turn it off completely, so no one can generate your AI persona. Verification is also required when using it (video + audio recording) to prove you are yourself:
To prevent addiction, OpenAI has also introduced protective settings for underage users, including a default daily cap on the number of generated videos they can view in their feed, as well as stricter permissions for cameo. In addition to automated safety mechanisms, they have expanded their human moderation teams to quickly handle potential bullying cases.
However, like Sora 2, Sora by OpenAI also uses an invitation-only system in its initial phase, and you can register in the app to receive a notification for account activation. The first phase is launching in the US and Canada, with expansion to more countries later.
