Adobe is bringing more of its Firefly generative AI capabilities to mobile devices. The new Adobe Express application beta incorporates AI-driven features, such as generating fills and generating image effects by entering text commands. It also supports real-time collaboration with the desktop version of Express and will eventually replace the current standard version of the Adobe Express application.
Firefly’s generative AI is now available in mobile Adobe Express apps
The Adobe Express service operates on a template basis. Like Canva, it’s designed for creating new content quickly and easily. All you need to do is select a template, drag and drop some assets, and you’ll have a professional-looking social media post, event flyer, or ad. Firefly integration goes a step further, as generative AI allows you to enter text prompts to create or modify images. You can also use natural language to create stylized fonts or generate entirely new templates.
Late last year, generative AI came to Adobe Express for desktop. Now, with the new Adobe Express app beta, users can access all the AI features originally available on their desktop version on their smartphone or tablet. The app beta also comes with some interesting new features, including real-time computer collaboration and the ability to access files from Photoshop or Illustrator. Adobe is also offering AI capabilities in the iPad version of Photoshop. Still, most of Adobe’s mobile products lack Firefly, and it may take years for generative AI to find its way across Adobe’s product suite, as the technology is still new and relies on the cloud for processing.
Note that you can already access Adobe’s Firefly web tool from your mobile device. This beta is noteworthy because it’s designed specifically for mobile devices and includes collaboration features, which also helps make Express stand out from the crowd of template-based design apps. Canva includes some AI tools, but it’s not as AI-oriented as Express.
You can install the Adobe Express app beta from the Google Play Store (Installation point here), provided you have a compatible Android device; if you are an iOS user, you must join the waitlist. Generative AI capabilities are free during beta, but will require a Creative Cloud membership in the future. Projects you save to the regular stable version of the Adobe Express app will not be transferred to the beta version of this app, but Adobe promises that files and resources will be migrated after the AI Enhanced beta ends its beta period.
