The China-specific version launched by NVIDIA at the end of last month GeForce RTX 4090D, although we already know that the performance of this card will definitely be worse than the normal version of RTX 4090, you may still be curious about its actual performance measurement. Recently, Chinese media finally released a relevant test report. Overall, the performance is about 6% slower, and in terms of CUDA being 10.9% less, it is actually quite acceptable.

In order to make the RTX 4090 comply with US regulations and continue to be sold in China, NVIDIA created an exclusive special version of the RTX 4090D for China, reducing some specifications, such as CUDA cores from the original 16384 to 14592, SM units from 128 to 114, Tensor cores from 512 to 456, and RT cores from 512 to 456. 128 reduced to 114, so performance must have gotten worse.
The following is the test platform of Chinese media Expreview, equipped with Intel Core i9-13900KS processor, and the operating system is Microsoft Windows 11 64bit build 23H2:
The first is the 3DMark test. Expreview has tested every mode. On average, the RTX 4090D is about 6.7% slower than the RTX 4090. The gap is not huge:
A total of 15 4K games were tested. First of all, when ray tracing was not enabled, it was not surprising that there was no pressure on the RTX 4090D. Each of them can provide a great gaming experience. Compared with RTX 4090, rasterized game performance is only 5.5% lower:
After turning on light tracing, the average is only 5.8% lower. Expreview also mentioned that the FPS difference in actual games is actually very small:
Next is the AI test, using UL Procyon AI Inference Benchmark mode and NVIDIA TensorRT API. The performance gap between single precision and double precision is about 5% slower, and the overall performance is only 3% slower. This part is not much different:
In the Stable Diffusion + TRT test, only the 512×512 gap is slightly larger, reaching 10%. In the 768×768 and 1024×1024 resolutions, the RTX 4090 and RTX 4090D are almost the same:
It is worth noting that the RTX 4090D can still be slightly overclocked in the 425W TGP setting. Expreview successfully raised the GPU core to 200MHz and passed the 3DMark Time Spy test:
So overall, the RTX 4090D is still a very good flagship graphics card, only inferior to the RTX 4090 in all aspects of performance.
The price of the RTX 4090 is now too high. For gamers, the CP value of the RTX 4090D will be much higher. Some people may not be happy that NVIDIA has set the price of this card to be the same as the RTX 4090. But even in Taiwan or other countries outside of China, the original price of the RTX 4090 is completely unavailable, and it requires a lot of price increase, so this is a fake issue, so don’t be unhappy.
I think it will be very difficult to buy the RTX 4090 at the original price this year.
