Recently, there has been a steady stream of news in the market,OpenAI The highly anticipated GPT-5 model is about to be released, and even earlier social media posts have been speculated to be warming up for the GPT-5 launch event. At this point, besides ChatGPT Apart from users being very eager,Copilot Users will also be curious whether Copilot supports GPT-5 as it has in the past. Although there is no official announcement yet, foreign media have already confirmed that Windows 11 Copilot will use GPT-5.

GPT-5 is coming soon, and foreign media confirm that Windows 11 Copilot will also support it.
Earlier, foreign media outlet Windows Latest confirmed that Windows 11 Copilot will support GPT-5. The report states:
Windows Latest reports that a new “Smart” mode has appeared in some users’ Copilot apps on Android and iOS. When enabled, it switches to GPT-5, and Microsoft is expected to make this the default mode for Copilot in the future. Copilot Pro subscribers can also unlock additional advanced features.

In addition, an item called ‘SmartChatModeProvider’ was also found in the native Copilot app of Windows 11. This provider is only registered in the input box, and when sending a message, it uses the SendMessageMode.Smart flag, which is the basis for the backend to select AI models and tools.
However, for now only GPT-4o will be enabled, not GPT-5, but they have noticed several references to GPT-5, and it also seems there are multiple versions of GPT-5, though it’s currently unclear how they relate to each other, and there’s no way to confirm which version Copilot will ultimately use.
It is worth noting that the new feature flags related to Smart mode also include “windowscomposersmartmode” and “smart-mode-default,” which are used to determine whether Smart mode is shown. This suggests that GPT-5’s Smart mode will likely be rolled out gradually rather than pushed to all users at once, and it also appears to rate-limit based on usage frequency.
The Microsoft Edge browser is no exception, as it also contains code related to GPT-5’s “Smart mode”.

As for when GPT-5 will be released? We still don’t know, but recently there have been more and more possible signs, such as the ChatGPT community sharing this image earlier, and many people are speculating whether GPT-5 is about to be released, so it probably won’t be too long:
