As previously announced NotebookLM Video Overviews feature, earlier Google Finally officially launched, meaning you’ll be able to understand the data you import by watching videos. It also improves the Studio panel, making it much easier to use than before, and lets you easily convert data into various formats.

NotebookLM video summary feature is officially launching! The Studio panel has also been fully upgraded.

Earlier, Google announced on its official blog the launch of the Video Overviews feature, first unveiled at the I/O developer conference. Although it’s called a video, it’s actually a narrated slideshow.

If you haven’t seen the effect yet, you can refer to the video released by Google:

Compared with audio summaries, video summaries not only consolidate the content of imported data but also extract images, charts, and data from documents. You can also tailor the AI-generated key points to your needs, such as what you want to focus on, learning goals, or even the charts in the data.

In the upper right corner, there is a custom feature:

Although Google says the initial rollout is limited to English users, I tested it and found that even with the Chinese interface, this feature is available. Regardless of whether the imported data is in English or Chinese, it can generate video summaries, but the content gets converted to English, and so does the narration.

It’s okay if the content has no images; the AI will automatically generate suitable images and insert them into the slides:

Currently, video summary generation is a bit slow and may take 10 to 30 minutes, especially if your content is very large, so please be patient.

Google also promised that as the video summary feature rolls out and evolves, more formats will be introduced in the future, meaning not just slides, but possibly even animations—which is quite exciting.

As for when video summaries will support other languages? Google says it will be soon, so we shouldn’t have to wait too long.

As for the fully upgraded Studio panel, the image below shows the old version:

And this is the newly designed Studio panel, now organized into four sections: voice summaries, video summaries, mind maps, and reports, with a simpler layout. If yours hasn’t changed yet, give it a few days and check back.

Google stated that users can now issue commands within a single notebook to generate customized video or audio summaries for different topics. They can also export different versions in various formats from certain data sources. All generated content will be neatly listed beneath these sections, as shown in the image below:

With the video summary feature, NotebookLM has become a full-fledged AI learning platform. You can learn from text, or from audio and video, depending on your preference. Of course, AI can still make mistakes, so if something seems off, or if it’s key information, it’s best to double-check to be safe.

In addition, OpenAI also appears to see the vast market for AI learning, and earlier announced the launch of a brand-new ChatGPT. Study ModeThis feature is also available in the free version. If you didn’t already know, I’d really recommend giving it a try.
