The famous technology Youtuber “Gamers Nexus” recently filmed a video and revealed that he was invited by Acer to visit the design center of the Taiwan headquarters. In the video, you can see that Acer is developing a new graphics card, but it is not the Intel graphics card that was known in advance, but NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards. What’s more interesting is that the RTX 4090 graphics card under development by Acer chooses to embed AIO water cooling in the cooling solution, rather than requiring an additional cooling radiator to be installed on the chassis. Additionally, there is an AMD Radeon graphics card in the prototype stage. It can be inferred from these products under development that Acer not only plans to launch Intel independent graphics cards with which it has already cooperated, but also plans to obtain certification from AMD and NVIDIA and launch a graphics card that currently has a more dominant market share than Intel Arc.

The new content of Gamers Nexus has really set off a big wave in the graphics card market. Acer has previously launched the Intel Arc A770 graphics card through the Predator brand, drawing attention to Acer’s goal of entering the graphics card market. Now seeing NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards under development proves that Acer hopes to become a major graphics card manufacturer that spans the three GPU manufacturers.

Acer’s new RTX 40 card has been launched in a low-key manner, but it is not sold separately

At present, it seems from the video that there is a lot of information about the N card. For example, it is known that the card is quite complete and uses RTX 4090 GPU. In order to handle the high heat generated by the card, Acer took the challenge of adding an integrated water cooling radiator to the card. Basically, the cold radiator and cold head parts have been completely integrated, and there is no distance between the two. If you hadn’t disassembled the outermost cooling fan, you wouldn’t have realized that this thing actually has a whole set of water cooling on it.

The water cooling radiator inside this experimental version of the Acer RTX 4090 graphics card is 22mm thick. The cooling radiator integrates a dual-pump system with two 100mm axial fans on the outside. The heat dissipation design also seems to refer to a bit of EVGA’s style. A slightly protruding copper block is used to directly contact the GPU chip. In addition to allowing the GPU to dissipate heat, it can also extend the cooling effect to the VRAM particles.

It’s worth mentioning that this graphics card was taken from Acer’s recently launched small console, the Predator Orion X. Accommodating an RTX 40-level graphics card in a compact body is a major selling point of the current Predator Orion X small console. In addition to the graphics card with its own water-cooling, the processor Core i9-13900KS also uses a customized 240mm AIO water-cooling for heat dissipation.

As for AMD graphics cards, although they were developed slightly earlier than NVIDIA graphics cards, Acer still does not plan to reveal too much internally. From the screenshots of the video, you can notice that this card uses three fans for heat dissipation and does not use water cooling. The power supply is different from the 12VHPWR used by the RTX 4090, it is just a dual 8-pin external power supply solution. However, the size does not look much smaller, and is similar to the NVIDIA graphics card seen earlier.

Although Acer currently intends to enter the field of graphics cards, NVIDIA and AMD have not officially been included as partners at this stage. Only Intel Arc requires the help of third parties, so Acer has participated. However, focusing on one of them may not be a good development direction. Acer will naturally work towards recognition of the other two GPUs.

▲ Acer currently only has Intel Arc graphics card partner status. It is still unclear whether AMD and NVIDIA can also recognize it.

Looking at NVIDIA and AMD, the latter will be more interested in Acer. The former already has many influential partners, and the chance of accepting Acer is relatively low. However, Acer’s efforts may be able to further promote the relationship between the two parties. If everything goes well, Acer may be expected to become a new graphics card player across the three brands of display chips.
