Whether you like it or not, AI is slowly becoming a part of everyone’s daily life. For example, if you’ve ever searched for information online, you’ve seen the AI Overview feature on Google Search, which uses AI to provide more concise answers to your queries. AI on social media platforms isn’t lagging behind either. Platforms like Instagram and Facebook have Meta AI, which you can use to generate text and images and quickly answer your questions. Now, another popular social platform, TikTok, has launched a new feature called “AI Alive” that can bring static photos to life.

TikTok launches new feature “AI Alive” to bring static photos to life.
In 2022, TikTok introduced a text-to-image feature on its platform, and this AI Alive can be seen as an upgrade to it. That is, AI Alive is only available within TikTok Story. For example, if you have a static photo of a blue sky with white clouds, you can use the feature to turn the photo into a short video, such as making the clouds move.

As mentioned earlier, the AI Alive feature can only be used with the TikTok Story feature. So if you want to use it, you’ll need to go to the Story camera on TikTok, select a photo from your gallery that you want to turn into a short video, and then simply tap the AI Alive icon that appears in the right sidebar. While the feature comes with a default prompt that says “Bring this photo to life,” you can also customize the settings to give the generated video a more personal touch. Once the video is generated, you can publish it as a TikTok Story.

Introducing this feature still has its downsides—some unscrupulous individuals can use it to generate content you would never want to see on social media platforms. That’s why TikTok detects uploaded photos, prompts, and generated videos before showing them to creators. Additionally, if you believe that videos generated by AI Alive are inappropriate and shouldn’t appear on TikTok, you can also manually choose to report the video.

TikTok will add an AI-generated label to the videos you create, so others know the video was made using AI. Additionally, all videos you create with this feature will embed C2PA metadata. C2PA is a technical standard that ensures that even if content is downloaded and shared across different platforms, people can easily verify its origin and find other related information, such as whether it was AI-generated rather than real footage.
