While major AI companies around the world continue to expand and develop, the prices of memory and other components have experienced a wave of violent turbulence. In addition to the memory products used by ordinary PC players, many electronic products that require memory are also experiencing rising prices, and this also includes game consoles. Just after Sony’s PS5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series

Although the Nintendo Switch 2 in Europe, America and Canada will not officially increase its price until September 1st, this policy has officially started in Japan on May 25th. On the same day, the price of the Japan-specific “Regional Limited Edition” Switch 2 was officially raised from the original 49,980 yen to 59,980 yen.

According to the latest weekly software and hardware sales list released by Japan’s “Famitsu” magazine, this price increase seems to have an immediate and significant impact on Switch 2 sales. Just three weeks before this wave of price increases were officially implemented, Switch 2 sold 214,438 units, 217,922 units, and 247,880 units respectively in Japan. The slight surge in the last week also shows that many players plan to buy before the price increase. But in the week after the price increase, the sales of this console in Japan instantly dropped to 31,751 units, a direct drop of 87% compared to last week.

Not only that, this price increase seems to have had a significant impact on the sales of the original Switch. The sales in the previous six weeks were 3462 units, 4513 units, 5080 units, 7960 units, 5285 units and 2731 units respectively, but last week only 229 units were sold, and they were even surpassed by the Xbox Series X, which has always been at the bottom.

The ranking of Japanese console sales last week is as follows:

  1. Nintendo Switch 2 – 31,751 (5,865,213 total)
  2. PlayStation 5 Digital – 6,527 (total 1,302,820)
  3. Nintendo Switch OLED – 4,162 (9,585,830 cumulative)
  4. Nintendo Switch Lite – 1,810 (6,972,953 total)
  5. PlayStation 5 Pro – 1,479 (360,308 cumulative)
  6. Xbox Series X Digital – 408 (31,544 total)
  7. PlayStation 5 – 367 (5,919,834 total)
  8. Xbox Series X – 304 (327,214 cumulative)
  9. Nintendo Switch – 229 (20,300,305 total)
  10. Xbox Series S – 123 (342,219 cumulative)
