ChatGPT Plus can now also use GPT-4.5, but there are usage limits.

When OpenAI released the GPT-4.5 model last weekIt was already announced earlier this week that it would be rolled out to Plus users, and just now the official X social platform announced that all ChatGPT Plus users can now use GPT-4.5! Simply use the model switcher in the top-left corner to start experiencing the most powerful GPT model currently available.

However, please note that GPT-4.5 currently has usage limits, and they are very limited, so it’s better to save it for essential moments.

ChatGPT Plus users can now begin experiencing the GPT-4.5 model

Earlier, OpenAI said on X that it would take 1–3 days for GPT-4.5 to roll out to all ChatGPT Plus users, but an hour later, OpenAI suddenly announced it was now fully available, meaning that as long as you’re a ChatGPT Plus member, you can already see the GPT-4.5 option in the model switcher.

Rollout complete ✅

This seems to be OpenAI’s usual tactic—every time, they first claim in the community that it will take longer, then shortly after, they say it’s fully done (laughs).

In any case, both the web and desktop versions of the model switcher will have an additional GPT-4.5 option. Although this is expected to replace GPT-4o, GPT-4.5 is currently very expensive and has usage limits (even for ChatGPT Pro users), so GPT-4o is still available.

OpenAI hasn’t publicly disclosed how much GPT-4.5 usage ChatGPT Plus users get, but netizens have already tested it — it’s currently 50 times per week, and once you exceed that, you have to wait until next week to use it again. That works out to about 7 times per day on average, which is honestly pathetically few.

So, for ChatGPT Plus users looking to use GPT-4.5 at this stage, it’s best to think carefully about whether the current task really needs the latest model, so you can effectively avoid running into usage limits. According to OpenAI, GPT-4.5’s strengths are in writing and exploring ideas.

The models currently available to ChatGPT Plus users include: GPT-4o, GPT-4.5, o1, o3-mini, o3-mini-high, GPT-4o mini, and GPT-4.

GPT-4.5 is currently OpenAI’s largest AI model, trained with more computational resources and data than any previous model. Sam Altman once said on X: “GPT-4.5 is a huge, expensive model. We originally wanted to launch it to both Plus and Pro users at the same time, but our GPU supply isn’t enough due to rapid user growth.”

GPT-4.5 is ready!

good news: it is the first model that feels like talking to a thoughtful person to me. i have had several moments where i've sat back in my chair and been astonished at getting actually good advice from an AI.

bad news: it is a giant, expensive model. we…

However, even so, GPT 4.5 is, strictly speaking, just a transitional step, because OpenAI has already announced that GPT-5 will be launched within a few months.

Additionally, in several AI benchmark tests, GPT-4.5’s performance still lags behind the Chinese AI company DeepSeek, Anthropic, and OpenAI’s own AI reasoning models in some areas.
