Intel’s 13th generation Raptor Lake processor paired with DDR5 memory, Geekbench score increased by nearly 20%

Although Intel’s 13th generation Raptor Lake processor has not yet been officially announced, specifications and benchmarks have been exposed recently. Unsurprisingly, this generation should still support DDR4 and DDR5 memory, unlike the AMD Ryzen 7000 series that only provides DDR5. Therefore, those who want to upgrade will definitely be worried about whether to choose DDR4 or DDR5. Judging from the recent Geekbench benchmarks, DDR5 seems to be a better choice.

In the Geekbench benchmark database, there are now Core i7-13700K benchmarks tested using the same motherboard (ASRock Z690 Stell Legend WiFi 6E / Z690 Steel Legend WiFi 6E/D5). The only difference is in the memory (DD4 and DDR5).

This Core i7-13700K has 16 cores, 24 threads, and 32GB DDR5 SDRAM 2593MHz memory. The running score results are 2069 points for single core and 19811 points for multi-core. 32GB DDR4 SDRAM 1795MHz scored 2090 points in single core and 16542 points in multi-core. It can be seen that after switching to DDR5, the multi-core score increased by nearly 20%, but the single-core performance dropped slightly:

In addition to this one, there is another 14-core 20-thread Core i5-13600K that also has test results with DDR4 and DDR5 memory. DDR5 single-core scored 2012 points and multi-core 16054 points. DDR4 single-core scored 1980 points and multi-core scored 14425 points. DDR5 also received a lot of performance improvements, and this one even beat the single-core score:

So overall, although Intel’s 13th generation Raptor Lake processor supports both DDR4 and DDR5, if you want to get the highest performance, it seems that you should choose DDR5 at present. However, it is not clear whether the game performance is so different. Is there any relevant game performance test that you can refer to.

As for the release time, it is rumored that it will be launched in September or October this year, and it will go on sale the week of October 17, so there are only more than two months left.
