When graphics cards were out of stock and difficult to buy,We have reported that Chinese manufacturers are thinking about RTX 3060M, convert this graphics card into a desktop version, and then sell it to miners for mining. Many people will be curious whether this change will have any impact on performance? Will it be better than the original mobile version? Recently, a foreign YouTube channel got this card and conducted a performance test. It was quite surprising. I didn’t expect it to be almost the same as the RTX 3060 desktop graphics card. People who want to buy it still need to think twice.

How is the performance of China’s unique RTX 3060M converted into a desktop graphics card?

Recently, Korean YouTube channel “뻘짓연구소” bought this RTX 3060M graphics card from China’s Taobao. From the appearance, it looks exactly like a professional gaming graphics card. You would not have thought that the GPU inside is actually an RTX 3060M with two cooling fans. However, as soon as you see the words above the fan, you can clearly know that this is not an orthodox NVIDIA graphics card:

The product serial number label on the rear honestly says RTX 3060M and 6GB DDR6 memory. The memory of RTX 3060 is 12GB GDDR6:

Although it is mainly used by miners, this card is still equipped with an image output interface. There are two DisplayPorts and two HDMIs. The arrangement of DP, HDMI, DP, and HDMI is also quite special:

After taking it apart, it was confirmed that it was indeed RTX 3060M and 6GB GDDR6:

Compared with the RTX 3060, although the mobile version of the RTX 3060M has half less memory, it has more CUDA, which has become 3840. At the same time, the TDP is also smaller, dropping from 170W to 115W. According to 뻘짓연구소, the TDP of this RTX 3060M is locked at 80W.

However, the RTX 3060M desktop version does not have an official driver. They use a customized driver based on version 512.15. This version is very old, but after all, it is just for mining, so the version does not matter:

After using 3DMark for running scores, we can find that although the 80W TDP of the RTX 3060M modified desktop version is lower than the 105W laptop version, the running scores are relatively high. FireStrike scored 21,763 points, and Time Spy also scored 8,363 points, which is almost the same as the RTX 3060. This is mainly due to the better heat dissipation of the desktop version, which provides more sustained and high-performance performance:

It can be clearly seen in the game test section that the clock speed has been increased from the original 1372MHz (the laptop version on the right) to 1657 MHz (the desktop version on the left). Therefore, it is not surprising that the running score is higher, and the game FPS is also relatively high:

Overall, although the performance has become stronger after the modification, which feels very good, don’t forget that this is not a game graphics card, but a graphics card specially modified for miners, so it will have many flaws, one of which is that there is no official driver. In addition, this RTX 3060M chip is also second-hand. You have no idea what the previous chip has experienced, so it is still not worth buying.
