The emergence of DRM allows game companies to protect their products from piracy as much as possible, and can also achieve a certain degree of preventing cheating in games. However, DRM is not so friendly to players. Its advent has made many players have to consider whether the DRM mechanism is working smoothly before running the game. For example, the DRM mechanism on some old games will have errors in the new system, which will make players become “victims of genuine software.” Recently, DRM has added another shortcoming that players deeply hate, that is, it is incompatible with Intel’s latest processors. Many games that use the latest DRM technology to prevent cheating cannot be used in the face of new processors. In order to solve these problems, Microsoft will launch updates on Windows 11 to deal with these situations. Intel tells everyone that in fact, as long as you find a switch in the BIOS interface and enable it, this situation may be solved:

When it comes to modern and popular DRM technology, Denuvo can be regarded as a representative one. This software service can be seen in many games, but players generally do not particularly feel the existence of it or other similar software. Only in special circumstances do you see their names mentioned. The recent conflict between Intel’s 12th-generation processors and these DRM technologies is an example. Intel Alder Lake processors adopt a hybrid architecture design that has not been seen in the past for the first time. There are usually two core architectures in a processor: P-Core (P-Core) and E-Core (E-Core). Their positioning is similar to the relationship between big cores and small cores in the big.Little architecture of common mobile phone processors.

Roughly speaking, the P core represents performance, while the E core represents energy efficiency. The combination of the two allows the Alder Lake core to have the output of the P core and the E core when performance is needed, and the more power-efficient E core takes over the task when the load is low. However, DRM technology does not understand such a core architecture, so conflicts are inevitable:

The solution proposed by Intel is for everyone to start with the UEFI BIOS on the motherboard. Shut down the computer, then press the Del key or other motherboard default keys to enter the UEFI BIOS while turning it on. If you are fast enough, you can directly enter the BIOS interface. Next, try to find the Legacy Game Compatibility Mode option and enable it. In this way, the processor will force the E core to enter a sleep state, so that the DRM will not operate abnormally due to misjudgment of the mixed core architecture. In theory, it can solve many situations where the game cannot be played normally. However, the disadvantage of this method is as mentioned before, it will cause the E core to suspend operation. For players who need to run test scores or game Benchmark programs, this feature will inevitably affect the final performance score or frame rate per second. So although there is a chance to solve the problem, it is not the best solution at this stage:
