VOLVO Car Taiwan has officially launched The All-New Volvo EX90 in Taiwan. It is the brand’s first all-electric flagship built on the SPA2 platform and its first model equipped with the HuginCore core computing system. The suggested launch price starts at NT$2.95 million, with the entire lineup reduced by NT$40,000 from the June presale price, across four variants. For a flagship large SUV, the NT$2.95 million entry point means it moves directly into the very top tier of Taiwan’s premium EV market, competing with large imported electric vehicles at the same price.

The exterior retains classic family design elements, including the headlight cluster known as “Thor’s Hammer” and dual C-shaped taillights, making it highly recognizable at night. The body is inspired by the imagery of a yacht cutting across the sea, paired with an integrated closed-off front end; the windows sit flush with the body, and hidden door handles let the side lines flow uninterrupted, while frameless side mirrors and aerodynamic wheels further reduce drag, bringing the drag coefficient to Cd 0.29. For the headlights, the Pixel Technology high-end HD pixel headlights have 1.3 million pixels and, combined with a front camera, can simultaneously identify up to 5 vehicles and dynamically adjust the beam pattern according to road conditions, maintaining nighttime visibility while reducing glare for other road users; the Thor’s Hammer daytime running lights are presented with a mechanical wing-spreading animation, and when the owner approaches, the welcome lighting responds with a blink.

Cabin: A Nordic living room paired with a three-layer screen.

The interior makes extensive use of FSC-certified wood trim, with ambient lighting integrated underneath, which Volvo calls “Starlight Translucent Interior Inlay”; the panoramic glass roof has a coating that blocks 99.9% of UV rays and 80% of infrared rays, and higher-end models even feature electrochromic technology. The flagship model comes standard with a Bowers & Wilkins audio system with 25 speakers, while Plus models get a Bose audio system.

The control interface uses a three-tier screen architecture: a 13.2-inch HUD head-up display projects vehicle speed and speed limits, a 9-inch digital instrument cluster offers map, traffic, and focus modes, and a 14.5-inch portrait central control screen handles navigation and in-car entertainment. It also has a built-in Google in-car system, integrating Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play.

Body dimensions are 5,037mm, with a 2,985mm wheelbase, paired with an EV-exclusive fully flat floor. All models come standard with premium ergonomic seats and offer both 6- and 7-seat layouts arranged in theater-style tiers. The second-row seats can slide independently and adjust their backrest angles, with a built-in child booster seat in the center. For cargo capacity, the front trunk offers 49 liters and the rear trunk 324 liters; when the second- and third-row seats are fully folded (the third row has power folding), they free up 2,135 liters of flat space. There is also a “Cabin Conversation Assist System,” which uses onboard microphones and the audio system to automatically adjust volume according to ambient noise, so first- and third-row occupants can converse without raising their voices.

800V architecture, 230 to 245 km in 10 minutes

The powertrain lineup offers three options, and all models have a top speed limited to 180 km/h. The Plus, Single Motor uses single-motor rear-wheel drive, is equipped with a 92 kWh battery, produces a maximum output of 333 hp/480 Nm, and supports DC fast charging up to 310 kW; the Ultra, Twin Motor and Ultra, Twin Motor Performance use dual-motor all-wheel drive, are equipped with a 106 kWh battery, have DC fast charging power increased to 350 kW, and output 456 hp/670 Nm and 680 hp/870 Nm respectively, with the top-spec model accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds.

The 800V electrical architecture brings three benefits: shorter charging times, halved current at the same power to reduce heat loss, and maintained high-voltage output in the mid-to-high-speed range. In real-world data, DC fast charging can add 230 to 245 km of range in 10 minutes, and 10% to 80% takes only 22 minutes. In terms of range, the Plus model offers 479 to 565 km, the Ultra model 521 to 617 km (WLTP standard), while the Ultra Twin Motor Performance 6-seat model can reach up to 625 km.

EX90 is also Volvo’s first model launched in Taiwan with CCS2 fast charging, which is a practical consideration for Taiwanese consumers who often drive long distances. The suspension is offered in tiered setups: Plus models use FSD frequency-responsive dampers; Ultra models come standard with a Four-C chassis with dual-chamber adjustable air suspension, which can adjust air spring stiffness according to road conditions and reduce road noise by up to 50%, features speed-sensitive ride height adjustment, and can lower ride height by up to 20mm and raise it by up to 40mm in Off-road mode.

HuginCore and 254 TOPS compute power

The EX90 is equipped with VOLVO’s in-house-developed HuginCore central computing platform, which consolidates vehicle functions previously spread across numerous electronic control units and links safety sensing, driver assistance, energy management, and in-vehicle infotainment systems. At its core is the NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin chip, delivering 254 TOPS of compute; in the cabin, a Qualcomm chip powers Google’s in-car system.

The safety system is likewise centered on HuginCore. Safe Space Technology, an all-around safety protection technology, integrates 5 cameras, 5 radars, and 12 ultrasonic sensors, using real-time computation to build a 360-degree field of view; the hardware list supplemented by the media also includes 2 in-cabin infrared cameras to monitor driver status. The system can recognize vehicles, pedestrians, bicycles, and stationary objects. When it detects danger, it alerts with sound and light and seatbelt vibration; when it determines a collision is unavoidable, active safety assistance takes over to brake or steer to avoid it. The overall driver assistance meets Level 2 standards and, if the driver is incapacitated, can automatically bring the vehicle to a safe stop and make an emergency call. The vehicle also supports OTA remote updates, allowing features to continue evolving with software and algorithms.

Starting from 2.95 million; Plus: pay 30,000 extra in the first month and get ventilated seats.

The official prices of the four variants are as follows: EX90 Plus, Single Motor, RWD: NT$2.95 million; Ultra, Twin Motor, eAWD: NT$3.55 million; Ultra, Twin Motor Performance, eAWD seven-seat: NT$3.79 million; six-seat: NT$3.85 million. Compared with the June pre-sale prices of NT$2.99 million, NT$3.59 million, NT$3.83 million, and NT$3.89 million, the entire lineup has a uniform price reduction of NT$40,000.

In terms of equipment, the Plus single-motor model comes standard with LED headlights with dynamic welcome, power-folding mirrors, a panoramic glass roof, 20-inch alloy wheels, and a power tailgate; the Ultra model upgrades to 21-inch alloy wheels, AHB adaptive road lighting, a headlight washer system, and multi-layer laminated safety glass side windows, while Twin Motor Performance has 22-inch alloy wheels. The Plus features Nordico plant-based leather seats, while the Ultra switches to Nappa breathable genuine leather and adds heated and ventilated front seats, power-adjustable backrest side bolsters, and 5-mode massage.

To celebrate the flagship’s launch, customers who purchase a Plus model this month can pay an additional NT$30,000 to upgrade to the “heated and ventilated front seats” valued at NT$80,000. The Plus and Ultra, Twin Motor are configured as seven-seaters, while only the Ultra, Twin Motor Performance offers both six-seat and seven-seat options.

Summary

EX90’s product logic is clear: pack three flagship features—800V fast charging, the HuginCore computing hub, and all-around safety sensing—into a single vehicle, then use an NT$2.95 million single-motor entry price to pull the brand into the competitive territory of large all-electric flagships. For most consumers, the NT$2.95 million Plus trim is the gateway to this technology, while an NT$40,000 pre-sale price cut and an NT$30,000 ventilated-seat perk are the incentives to get in during the first month.
